Help Send West Australian Sailors to Nationals
Every West Australian knows the deal. When a national event is being held on the other side of the country, it costs more; more time, more money, more logistical effort just to show up at the start line. For sailors, it's even more pronounced. They need a boat! That alone makes the cost of competing at the 2027 Oceania and Australian ILCA Championships in Melbourne significantly higher for every WA sailor than for every other competitor turning up in January.
We take it on the chin. We always have. We organise, we plan, and we get on with it, because that's what West Australians do. But the financial reality is that our sailors and their families carry a burden that most other state competitors simply don't. The tyranny of distance is real, and it hits hardest in a sport that requires you to bring your own equipment halfway across the continent.
That's why we're asking you to chip in.
This campaign raises funds to help reduce those costs for our sailors, and we have good reason to be motivated. At last year's Nationals in Tasmania, our team brought home the overall team prize, the Batten’s Trophy. We're not heading to Melbourne just to make up the numbers. We're going to defend that result, and we want to bring more West Australians with us to do it.
Your donations go directly to the International Laser Class Association of Western Australia (ILCAWA), to coordinate and fund professional coaching at the regatta. Coaching is a significant cost, and one of the most direct investments we can make in our sailors' performance and experience. Your contribution makes a real and direct impact on what our sailors can achieve when they get there.
