World Report LASER U21
The 2022 U21 Laser Standard Worlds were held in Vilamoura, Portugal.
I started the event off well with some consistent results in light to moderate winds and after day 1 was sitting in 4th overall. Then unfortunately we didn’t get any sailing in for next 2 days due to no wind. On day 4 we completed 3 races late in the evening in very light wind. I had an up and down day with a race win but also a breakage which put me back in the 2nd race. After the 5 races of qualifying I was still sitting in 4th place - a few point off the lead.
Heading into finals the race committee started to get desperate and raced us in basically no wind, this led to very luck based racing due to the fluky wind and most of the top guys including myself dropped out of podium contention. Only 7/12 races were completed for the championship so there wasn’t any opportunity to make a comeback - as we didn’t sail on the final day either.
Obviously very disappointed with the outcome, but that’s the sport. Onto the next!
