Jasper Stay ILCA 6 Worlds Reflection and Photos
Reflection – ILCA 6 Youth Worlds, Cabrillo Beach (LA)

The ILCA 6 Youth Worlds in LA was a tough but valuable experience that’s given me a clearer picture of what it takes to perform at the highest level. The week brought consistent seabreeze conditions with around 13–15 knots most days, minimal shifts, and strong current that made the start line incredibly challenging.

In Qualifying, I felt that I could have done better but was mid gold fleet going into finals so had plenty of room to improve. I had decent speed throughout the event and was often able to sail through the fleet, Multiple top mark rounding’s in the 50s turned into top-20 finishes, which gave me confidence in my ability to fight back.

In Finals, I started slowly with a 64th but was proud of how I bounced back mentally. A DSQ could’ve easily derailed things too, but I stayed focused on what mattered and kept trying to learn. One of my biggest takeaways was understanding the importance of using the coaching support.

Also, small prep details like having jackets on the water or sorting stickers earlier can make a big difference to energy and mindset.

Looking forward, I’ve realised how important it is to back my plan, stay calm under pressure, and manage energy through smart prep and consistent training. This year’s been a big step forward for me — both in terms of sailing and in understanding what it means to perform at higher levels.

On wards and upwards.

Thank You ILCAWA for your support

Kind Regards
